Helping children and young people make the connection between the ‘disposable’ society we live in and the effect that its resulting mountains of waste is having on the environment is essential in reducing our waste.
By teaching children and young people how to reduce the amount they use, repair and reuse what they can, and recycle the rest, you can help instil a culture of sustainable consumption that will hopefully spill out of the classroom and into their home-lives. *
By 2020 the government recommends that all schools are models of waste minimisation and sustainable procurement, using goods and services of high environmental and ethical standards from local sources where practicable, and increasing value for money by reducing, reusing, repairing and recycling as much as possible.
